Choong Wan Chin - Choreography

Choong Wan Chin, Malaysian, is Founder and Artistic Director of KL Dance Works. She is also the Co-founder and former Artistic Director of Ballet Theatre Malaysia.

A graduate of the Shanghai Dance School, she has danced with the Singapore Dance Theatre and Shanghai Ballet Company. Upon receiving her Master's Degree of Fine Arts in Dance and Integrated Media at California Institute of the Arts, USA, she joined Ena Ballet Studio, Japan as Resident Choreographer and Principal teacher and co-founded Ena Ballet Studio Company.

From 2003-2010, Wan Chin worked in cooperation with the State Ballet School of Berlin, Germany (Staatsliche Ballet Schule Berlin) on a pre-professional training program for talented Japanese students. In 2009, the program extended to include a partnership with Houston Ballet’s Ben Stevenson Academy, USA.

Wan Chin has been on the panel of adjudicator of The Dance Society of Malaysia’s Solo Classical Ballet Competition for 7 years (between 2004-2013).

She was also a judge for the Boh Cameronian Arts Awards from 2020-2022 and Malaysian International Ballet Grand Prix 2022.

Since 2010, Wan Chin has been invited to bring her choreographies back to Malaysia. She has staged 10 major productions, full-length ballet repertoires and International Ballet Galas at the National Theatre (Istana Budaya Kuala Lumpur) and in 2015 collaborated with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in creating Carmen in Dance and Paquita Grand pas Classic.

Wan Chin has been invited to guest teach and choreograph in Asia (Indonesia, Japan, Singapore and Thailand), Colombia and USA.

Elynn Chew - Story Development

Elynn, a long retired dancer, grew up, played and first learned ballet in the hazy town of Ipoh. Born a day-dreamer, aspired to dance so deeply which brought her to city life in Kuala Lumpur to teachers, Zhou Gui Xin and Ellie Lai (Zhou). Her curiosity for dance last took her to Singapore Dance Theatre and finally a twist of fate with KL Dance Works landed her in the quiet hills of the Dandenongs in Melbourne.

Always a dreamer trying to be a realist, Elynn enjoys a cup of coffee whilst wandering away in her mind in wonder.

Tan Eng Heng - Lighting Designer

Malaysia renowned lighting designer.

In 1998, upon graduation from the drama department of the Malaysian Institute of the Arts, he was awarded top honors and declared valedictorian in his cohort of graduates. Since then, he has worked professionally as a drama lecturer and consultant with MSC International College, SEGI College, New Era College Malaysia and University Pendidikan Sultan Idris. He also was the Theatre Manager for Damansara Perfoming Arts Centre (DPAC).

An avid supporter of community theatre, he has been promoting theatre-making in different communities. In addition to his lighting design profession, he has been developing community based theatre in different states and towns in Malaysia. He hopes that peoples in these communities could also enjoy the beauty of performing arts.

He was accorded the most outstanding production professional award in 2000 Ada Awards and winner of Best Lighting Design in The 9th, 10th, 12th, 13th, 18th & 19th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards. His extensive involvement in theatrical productions has brought him to Singapore, Philippines, Macau, Taiwan, Korea, China, India, Qatar (The Doha Games), Australia, Canada, Italy, South Africa, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Paraguay.

Beatrice Lau Pek San - Costume Designer

Beatrice Lau Pek San was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In December 1999, she graduated from the University of Melbourne, Australia, with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Commerce.

In 2015, Beatrice founded Beatrice Lau Sustainable Living with a mission to support women and seamstresses who work from home, sustain local batik makers, and preserve the art of embroidery in Chinese straits clothing, particularly the nyonya kebaya. Her brand advocates for responsible fashion with a zero-waste philosophy.

From 2016 to 2018, Beatrice actively participated in various artisanal markets and bazaars, including Riuh In the City, Sunny Side Up Market, KL Journal Hotel, and art markets across Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. These events helped raise awareness for her brand, showcasing a ready-to-wear collection of modern batik clothing and the nyonya kebaya. Additionally, she promoted a jewelry range made from recycled silver, wood, seeds, and upcycled plastic materials.

In 2018, Beatrice opened a small retail outlet at ArtRow in Publika Shopping Gallery, offering bespoke clothing pieces. A year later, in 2019, she expanded into a larger retail space at The School at Jaya One to accommodate a broader collection of ready-to-wear clothing and conduct ad-hoc workshops.

Post-COVID, Beatrice's ready-to-wear collection remains available at TMS Studios on the Ground Floor at The School at Jaya One. Her brand continues to support local batik artisans and women who work from home while promoting Chinese straits clothing and culture.

Lin Wee - Graphics Designer

Lin is New Zealand-born to Malaysian parents. Starting her career in 2001, Lin's passion and focus has been in the branding, print marketing and packaging design segments of the market. In 2005, Lin started her own design business helping businesses discover and create their brand identity and secure their space in the marketplace.

She delights in making connections, resolving conundrums, and creating harmony from chaos. Her love for typography, line and colour and her pursuit of beauty and innovation are at the forefront when she looks at design and packaging. Satisfaction comes from translating her clients' aspirations and goals into visual terms - and she excels at doing this.

Her ideal client has a vision, and a goal, but not too many parameters so that Lin’s creativity and strategic skill has free play. Risk and a willingness to push the edge (she loves fast cars, motorbikes, and snowboarding) is balanced by the harmony and intrigue of performing Chinese music.
